ABOUT KHANGELA

When you walk with Khangela your safari is based on the bare necessities, enabling you to find the magic and solitude of the bush. Meals are cooked over an open fire while clients enjoy a sun downer and relive the day’s experiences.

Mike Scott is your guide.

Mike was born in Zambia and grew up in Zimbabwe where he learned the ways of the bush, the mammals, the birds and the insects. A career in the Forest service strengthened his outdoor foundations. Now he runs his own company Khangela Safaris, one of the country’s most highly regarded walking safari outfits with its focus on personal service and tailor-made tours. Your personal host and guide, Mike, has been guiding since 1990 and has much to share and show to his visitors to Africa.

Bernard Sibanda - part of the team.
Mike and Bernard started walking together in 1992. Bernard grew up near the Shangani River, his field of experience surpasses any qualification. Tracking animals or finding the shortest route back to the camp are just a few of Bernard's amazing skills.

Camping/Walking Safaris
We base ourselves in well situated campsites which will give us the best opportunity to explore the national parks. All we need is packed up in our safari vehicle with trailer from spacious walk in tents with comfy mattresses to hot showers and cold beers. Meals are freshly prepared. With this style taking on the ruggedness of Africa walking could not be easier.

Backpacking Safaris
You could not get closer to the bush. Purists will enjoy loading up a backpack and heading off into the wilderness. We will spend our time following ancient animal trails to remote springs and sharing the water supply with whatever else drinks there. This is not always the best for finding game but it is the best for finding what few others experience…Africa at its most remote.

During a backpacking trip all equipment is split up amongst the group, according to individual abilities and carried between camps. We will walk for three to five hours ... 10 to 15 km ... in the morning and then set up camp for the night, perhaps taking a walk in the late afternoon without packs. Accommodation is in lightweight, two-person tents.
